The Beginning (1902)
Built in 1902 at the southern entrance to Pahiatua, the Pahiatua Hospital served as the primary medical facility for the surrounding agricultural community for nearly a century.
Expansion & Accommodation (1940s–1980s)
Gradually enlarged over the decades, the facility added dedicated maternity wards, operating theatres, nurses' quarters, and domestic facilities. During the 1960s, Ward 1 was constructed to expand general care capacity.
Closure & Refurbishment as Masters Hall (1998–2008)
Following government health restructures, the hospital officially closed its doors in June 1998. In 2008, the 10-acre property was thoughtfully refurbished into Masters Hall, preserving the native timber floors, iconic wide corridors, and park-like gardens.
The Fernhaven Chapter
Today, the site begins a new journey as Fernhaven, combining historical preservation with health, mission, and community retreat work.
